How to Generate Hinglish Subtitles in Premiere Pro
Premiere Pro can transcribe Hindi, but Hindi support does not automatically mean Roman Hinglish output. Desi Subtitles for Premiere Pro adds a Hinglish-first workflow to the editor: select an audio export, generate a timed SRT with your account, import it into the project, and keep the captions editable on the timeline.
Why Premiere Pro struggles with Hinglish workflows
The Hindi language setting tells speech recognition to listen for Hindi and usually write it in Devanagari. The English setting tells it to interpret the same sounds as English. Neither option expresses the real request: recognize Hindi-English speech and write the Hindi portions in Roman letters.
Kal ka client review actually kaafi smooth tha.
कल का क्लाइंट रिव्यू ऐक्चुअली काफ़ी स्मूद था।
The traditional Hinglish caption workflow
A common workaround is to export audio, upload it to a general transcription service, convert or rewrite the result into Roman Hindi, correct cue timing, download an SRT, and then return to Premiere for import. Every handoff adds another place for filenames, timing, script choice, or revisions to drift.
- Export a clean sequence mix or dialogue stem.
- Upload it to a transcription tool and wait for processing.
- Convert Devanagari or incorrect English text into Roman Hinglish.
- Review names, slang, code-switches, and cue boundaries.
- Download SRT, import it into Premiere, and check sync again.
Install Desi Subtitles for Premiere Pro
- 01
Download the packaged plugin
Open the Desi Subtitles Premiere page on your Windows desktop and download the .ccx release.
- 02
Approve it in Creative Cloud Desktop
Open the CCX and approve installation. Direct distribution may show Adobe's third-party plugin warning.
- 03
Restart Premiere and open the panel
Choose Window → UXP Plugins → Desi Subtitles. Customers do not need Developer Mode or UXP Developer Tool.

Generate Roman Hinglish subtitles from the Premiere panel
- 01
Export or select clean audio
Use the original dialogue or a clean WAV, MP3, or M4A export. Music, echo, overlapping speakers, and compressed downloads create avoidable errors.
- 02
Choose Hinglish (Roman)
Use Hinglish for mixed Hindi-English speech written in Latin letters. Hindi produces Devanagari and English is intended for English audio.
- 03
Generate and save the SRT
The panel uploads the selected audio to the Desi Subtitles API, shows progress, and asks where to save the completed SRT.
- 04
Import it into the active project
The plugin imports the saved file. If Premiere cannot place it automatically, drag the SRT from the Project panel onto the sequence.
Edit captions and preserve the SRT workflow
SRT keeps caption text and timing separate from the video, so the result remains easy to correct in Premiere. Play the first, middle, and final cues, then review names, brands, numbers, slang, fast code-switches, and any section with overlapping voices.
- Fix wording before spending time on fonts, colors, or motion.
- Correct any global offset before adjusting individual cue boundaries.
- Keep the reviewed SRT as the reusable source for YouTube or client delivery.
- Style the caption track in Premiere after the text and sync are final.
- Use the Desi Subtitles web editor when you want cue-level review before import or additional caption-layer exports.
Who the Premiere plugin is useful for
The plugin is designed for Indian creators and editors who already finish in Premiere and repeatedly handle Hindi-English speech. It is especially useful when Roman Hindi readability matters more than a generic Hindi transcript.
- Reels and Shorts editors working with fast code-switched dialogue
- YouTube creators who want an editable Hinglish subtitle track
- Podcast and interview editors handling Indian names and conversational English
- Freelance editors delivering SRT alongside the final video
- Social teams that share one Desi Subtitles account balance across web and Premiere workflows

Frequently asked questions
Can Premiere Pro generate Hinglish subtitles?
Premiere Pro supports Hindi transcription, but it may return Devanagari rather than Roman Hinglish. The Desi Subtitles plugin generates Roman Hinglish from a selected audio export and imports the result as SRT.
Do I need UXP Developer Tool to install the plugin?
No. Customers install the .ccx package through Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop. UXP Developer Tool and Developer Mode are only needed for plugin development.
Can I edit an imported SRT in Premiere Pro?
Yes. After import, add the SRT to a caption track and edit the cue text, timing, and appearance in Premiere Pro.
Does the plugin export my Premiere sequence audio?
Not in v0.1.0. Export or select an audio file once, then use the panel for generation, SRT saving, and project import.
Does the Premiere plugin use separate credits?
No. It uses the same Desi Subtitles account and audio-minute balance as the web editor.
