How to Generate Hinglish Subtitles in Premiere Pro

The Hindi language setting tells speech recognition to listen for Hindi and usually write it in Devanagari. The English setting tells it to interpret the same sounds as English. Neither option expresses the real request: recognize Hindi-English speech and write the Hindi portions in Roman letters.

A common workaround is to export audio, upload it to a general transcription service, convert or rewrite the result into Roman Hindi, correct cue timing, download an SRT, and then return to Premiere for import. Every handoff adds another place for filenames, timing, script choice, or revisions to drift.

   Download the packaged plugin

   Open the Desi Subtitles Premiere page on your Windows desktop and download the .ccx release.

   Approve it in Creative Cloud Desktop

   Open the CCX and approve installation. Direct distribution may show Adobe's third-party plugin warning.

   Choose Window → UXP Plugins → Desi Subtitles. Customers do not need Developer Mode or UXP Developer Tool.

   Connect your Desi Subtitles account

   Create a ds_… key on the API Keys page, paste it once in plugin Settings, and confirm your audio-minute balance.

   Export or select clean audio

   Use the original dialogue or a clean WAV, MP3, or M4A export. Music, echo, overlapping speakers, and compressed downloads create avoidable errors.

   Choose Hinglish (Roman)

   Use Hinglish for mixed Hindi-English speech written in Latin letters. Hindi produces Devanagari and English is intended for English audio.

   Generate and save the SRT

   The panel uploads the selected audio to the Desi Subtitles API, shows progress, and asks where to save the completed SRT.

   Import it into the active project

   The plugin imports the saved file. If Premiere cannot place it automatically, drag the SRT from the Project panel onto the sequence.

SRT keeps caption text and timing separate from the video, so the result remains easy to correct in Premiere. Play the first, middle, and final cues, then review names, brands, numbers, slang, fast code-switches, and any section with overlapping voices.
